Digital Investigations and Information Security Consulting in Charleston, SC

Confidential. Methodical. Licensed in South Carolina.

Charleston is a city of significant business activity, complex professional relationships, and high-value personal decisions. When something doesn’t add up — a business partner’s background, an unexplained digital threat, a device you’re no longer sure about — the questions tend to be urgent and the stakes real.

SpecterSec provides discreet, fact-based digital investigations and information security consulting to individuals and organizations in the Charleston area. Our work is lawful, ethical, and documented. We don’t speculate, and we don’t over-promise. We find what the evidence supports and tell you plainly what it means.

What We Do in Charleston

What This Is. What This Isn’t.

SpecterSec operates entirely within the law. We do not conduct unauthorized access to accounts or devices, deploy monitoring software, intercept communications, or use any method that would compromise the integrity of findings or expose our clients to legal risk. Every engagement is scoped carefully, and we are direct about what can and cannot be established through lawful digital investigation.

If you’re looking for someone to hack an account or install tracking software, we are not that firm.

If you need documented, defensible, professionally conducted digital investigation or security work — we are.

What You Receive

Every SpecterSec engagement concludes with a clear deliverable suited to the scope of the matter. Depending on the nature of the work, this typically includes a scoped summary of findings, relevant evidence and documentation, a timeline or pattern summary where applicable, a plain-English explanation of what the findings mean, and practical recommendations for next steps.

Findings are presented as findings. What could not be confirmed is stated clearly. We do not fill gaps with assumptions.

Local, Licensed, and Direct

SpecterSec is licensed to operate in South Carolina. Our principal investigator is based in the Lowcountry and works directly on every matter — there is no handoff to junior staff or offshore resources. Inquiries are handled confidentially from first contact.

Inquire Confidentially

We review each matter individually before scoping any engagement. There is no commitment required to make an inquiry, and initial consultations are handled with full discretion.

SpecterSec serves clients across Charleston and the Lowcountry who share a common need: lawful, discreet answers to sensitive digital questions. Our work typically falls into a few categories:

  • Individuals
    • Navigating concerns about a partner’s honesty, online identity, or digital conduct
  • Professionals
    • Attorneys, executives, physicians, and financial advisors whose personal exposure carries outsized professional risk
  • Small businesses and family offices
    • Who may be responding to suspected intrusions, compromised accounts, or malware incidents
  • Families
    • Facing harassment, doxxing, impersonation, or targeted digital threats

Yes. Confidentiality begins the moment you reach out, not after a contract is signed.

Your initial inquiry, any details you share during a consultation, and the fact that you contacted us at all are treated as private. We don’t discuss prospective clients, share names, or reference matters with third parties. Consultations are conducted through secure channels of your choosing, and we’re happy to accommodate pseudonyms or intermediaries if that makes you more comfortable at the outset.

If you decide not to move forward, any notes or materials from our conversation are handled according to your preference; retained securely, returned, or destroyed. There is no obligation to engage, and no record of your inquiry is ever shared or sold.

Discretion isn’t a policy we apply to paying clients. It’s the standard we operate under from the first message.

It depends on scope, but most engagements fall within predictable ranges.

A focused Digital Footprint Assessment or Partner & Identity Verification typically takes three to seven business days from the time we have what we need to begin. A Malware Investigation usually runs one to two weeks, depending on the complexity of what we find and whether the situation is still active.

Several factors can shift that timeline: the volume of data involved, how quickly we receive access to devices or accounts, whether findings uncover additional threads worth pursuing, and the level of documentation you need in the final deliverable.

We’ll give you a realistic estimate after the initial consultation and if something changes mid-engagement that affects the timeline, you’ll hear it from us before it becomes a surprise.

Pricing is matter-specific, because the work is matter-specific.

Rather than publish flat rates that rarely fit real situations, we scope each engagement after an initial consultation. That conversation is complimentary and gives us enough context to propose a clear structure which is typically a fixed fee for well-defined work, or a capped hourly arrangement for investigations where the scope may evolve.

You’ll receive a written contract before any work begins. It spells out what we’ll do, what we won’t, what you’ll receive as a deliverable, and what it will cost. If circumstances change during the engagement in a way that affects scope or fees, we pause and have that conversation with you before continuing. There will be no surprise invoices and no scope creep billed after the fact.
